Research & Education

The University of Minnesota is one of the top public research institutions in the United States. Its flagship Twin Cities campus is home to over 50,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students and well over 2,000 tenured/tenure-track faculty members.

Research and education are also at the center of CGES. Its flexible structure allows CGES to draw on talent across disciplinary and institutional boundaries. Faculty and graduate students from a broad spectrum of departments come together as teams to investigate special topics in interdisciplinary, cross-institutional Research Collaboratives. Research collaboratives often culminate in international conferences. Advanced graduate students pursue a range of research topics in the annual Trans-Atlantic Summer Institute. Finally, the Center nurtures an ambitious publication program in the field of German and European Studies.
